Turkey improves conditions for EU exporters
Turkey has recently lifted the requirement for importers of alcoholic beverages from the EU to submit a “Certificate of Conformity for Imports” issued by the Tobacco and Alcohol Board (TABA) in order to import. In the Turkish Official Gazette, number 26795, dated 22 February 2008, Turkey introduced the necessary amendments in the Regulation laying down the rules and procedures applied in the internal and external trade of alcoholic beverages, to lift the requirement to submit a Certificate of Conformity from the TABA in order to import, while replacing it with the requirement for a notification statement. Importers will only have to obtain a single import certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
European Chemicals Agency now operational
The European Chemicals Agency, located in Helsinki, Finland manages the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction processes for chemical substances to ensure consistency across the European Union. The Agency launched the REACH-IT portal on 1 June 2008, accepting pre-registrations and other data submissions from industry. This coincidies with the coming into force of the EU Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals Regulation. See http://echa.europa.eu/home_en.asp
The highest export import trade volumes between Turkey and the UK was achieved in 2007 with 14.0 billion US$, making the UK, Turkey’s 2nd biggest export and 8th biggest import market, and Turkey becoming UK’s 17th largest import and 19. export partner. Trade volume rose even further in the first four months this year with an increase of 17.9%
