In the Jan-June the first half year period in 2010, Turkey's exports to UK increased by 34.2% and UK exports to Turkey was up by 41.4%. In this period, the share of Turkey's exports to UK as percentage of Turkey's exports worldwide, rose from 5.0% to 5.8%. The share of UK exports to Turkey increased form 2.4% to 2.6%. Total trade between the two countries in the Jan-June the first half year period in 2010 rose by 37.0% compared to same period the previous year. In March 2010, Turkey's exports to UK increased by 36.5% and UK exports to Turkey were up by 60.1% compared to March 2009. In the January-March 1st Quarter of 2010 Turkey's exports to UK increased by 48.0% and UK exports to Turkey by 44.2% compared to same period the previous year. While UK Turkey trade had decreased by 38% in the first 9 months of 2009, Turkish exports to the UK increased by 1.2% and UK exports to Turkey slowed down by 2.9%, the smallest decline percentage so far since October 2008. The rate of decline of Turkey exports to UK in 2009 slowed down in March to 38%, which was 61% in January and 58% in February compared to same months in the previous year. UK exports to Turkey shrank by 53.5% in January, 54.5% in February and by 54.3% in March 2009. Total exports and imports between UK and Turkey was down by 52.4%. Chairman of Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD), Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ, stated that they are expecting by % 4.1 contract on Turkish economy this year. According to the government, Turkey will be contracted by %3.6 , IMF’s estimation is %5.5 contract for Turkish economy. Yalcindag, added that “For the forthcoming a few years , Turkey will cover its economy by itself.”
